Chinese delegation attracted to whitsundays


A year ago when Mr Trump went to China for a summit and got heckled by its leader, he was a stranger on the South China Sea in particular.

To Chinese people the US president looked like a crazy dictator - something that he had done years earlier and was unlikely to want to happen again.

When Trump made the trip, he was greeted by some of South Korea's leaders, some of whom had called him out on his alleged racist remarks.

South Korea's president also got a round of applause when he said, without actually saying it, that his country's President Park Geun-hye had paid for the visit.

But those events didn't stop China from flocking to the Trump resort, and the billionaire tycoon and reality TV star has enjoyed a warm welcome across the disputed water - and perhaps the whole world - during his time in the region.

China's president, Xi Jinping, had been planning to visit the US on May 21 to mark the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of the Two Empires in Beijing, a move that may well be aimed at showing US President-elect Trump is ready to back the South China Sea in peace and resolve any territorial disputes there.

But Mr Trump is also reportedly in discussions to establish a $500million defence alliance with Taiwan in what has become a potential trade war between the two countries.

Despite China's denials, that is something that could spark a war.

And he appears willing to take a beating to push the issue.

On Monday, he threatened to pull out of an agreement being struck between the US, Japan and several other Pacific Rim countries to allow more US air and missile strikes in Syria as a way of forcing Mr Putin to get his troops back home from there.

That is an extraordinary move, with China opposed to the idea, but it may have an impact in the coming days and weeks - for which the president of the People's Liberation Army is probably to blame.

While Mr Trump was in South Korea on Friday, the White House posted pictures of the "big-boned" Mr Kim's convoy that included a number of Chinese celebrities - including Miss Universe winner Ye Hua and Miss Singapore pageant winner Yun Jiaqing, among others.

But it isn't just those stars that have turned up to help Mr Trump in South Korea this week - a host of other US figures have too.

It was reported yesterday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was to meet with Mr Trump on Monday and was expected to meet with defence minister Jim Mattis on the South Korean side of the border.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, N.Y. (WJZ) — A man was shot and killed by a gun in Washington Heights Tuesday morning. Police arrested a 26-year-old woman at the scene for a misdemeanor warrant for carrying a loaded firearm.

According to the Brooklyn District Attorney's office, the shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. on South Avenue South and Woodcrest Road in the 1300 block of South Avenue South.

The woman and a man, both in their 20s, were on the floor of a nearby apartment when shots were fired and both were hit. The suspect was taken to Jamaica Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was later pronounced dead.

The Brooklyn DA's office says the 26-year-old woman is from Brooklyn. She is now charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Dangerous Weapon and Use of a firearm in commission of a crime of violence in the second degree. She was booked at the BPD Detention Center on $500,000 bond.

The 26-year-old woman is now in custody and is scheduled to appear in a courthouse next week.

A man who witnessed the shooting told us he heard the shots and went outside to get his wife's cellphone, but then heard more gun fire.

"One of the males said, 'Yeah, man, they were shooting,'" said John Schuster.

Another witness, who wanted to remain anonymous, said, "It was just one shooter, in a black Jeep Cherokee, just going around corners, doing these crazy shots. I knew something wasn't right, because I was running and thinking it was a drill. I heard six, seven blasts that sounded like two or three guys."

The witness has been identified as John Schuster. He said he saw the woman and man being hit, and then one of the boys on his family's bike pulled up next to a large black SUV.

"I could tell he was wounded, in a way; he was definitely bleeding," John said. "I thought, 'This guy, he's gonna die.' I saw him in my rearview mirror."

The witness did manage to get his wife's phone back and dial 911. 911 dispatchers tried to talk him into dialing back and forth but no one came.
